Embryo transfer and artificial insemination in horses
Two technologies that extend the reach of good genetics, both used in the B2B Ranch program.

Artificial insemination
In artificial insemination, semen is collected from the stallion and placed in the mare by a veterinarian, with no natural mating. This reduces handling risks and makes it possible to use distant stallions.
Embryo transfer
In embryo transfer, the donor mare is bred or inseminated and, days later, the embryo is collected and transferred to a recipient mare, who carries the pregnancy to term. This way a mare can produce foals while still competing, as with B2B Morgana Rolls, who runs in the 16s and is also a donor.
Why it matters to breeders
These techniques increase the output of the best mares and speed up genetic improvement. Each procedure should be carried out by a veterinarian, and registration of the foals follows the rules of the breed registry.
